A group of four professors, two lecturers and 11 students from various cultural and social backgrounds and IT-related fields of study spent nearly a week in Erongo region as part of a Summer School on Culture and Computer Science. The field trip was organised by the Faculty of Computing and informatics in partnership with Humboldt University and HTW-Berlin University in Germany and Wits University in South Africa.

Mercy Bere Chitauro, a member of the Faculty of Computing & Informatics, was awarded Best PhD Researcher in Computer Science Department and Prof. Neuvo Award at the 20th Polytechnic of Namibia awards ceremony held on the 15th of April, 2015. The awards were are given to the PhD candidate with outstanding research output and with the most progress.

Heike Winschiers-Theophilus, Director/Professor in the School of Computing and Informatics won two prestigious IFIP TC.13 awards; the Brian Shackel Award and the Interaction Design for International Development Award 2015 for her outstanding paper entitled “Penan’s Oroo’ Short Message Signs (PO-SMS): Co-design of a Digital Jungle Sign Language Application” as co-authored with Tariq Zaman from the University of Malaysia Sarawak.
